What is the basic structure of a formal email?

I am applying for an internship and I need to email the company. I don't know how to address the person I'm writing to or if there's a specific outline involved. Thanks!

What is the basic structure of a formal email?
Question Asker,

As you can see, a formal e-mail uses correct punctuation and capitalization. The top has the recipient's name, then a comma. Afterwards, the body of the message is two lines down.

Every time you even slightly change the subject, you should begin a new paragraph. Do not indent, though; e-mails don't do that well. Remember spell check is your friend.

Don't forget to sign off with your information at the end.
