How do I make digital pics, sent via email, larger without distorting the resolution?

Okay, I have about 8 pictures that where taken with a digital camera. I had my buddy send them to me via email, but they are all small, about 2x2 and when i zoom in the resolution becomes distorted. The idiot buddy of mine, figured since he sent them to me he could erase them. These are those types of pics that you want to keep forever and are the only ones I have. Is there any way to blow them up and still have great resolution?

You can't add what's not there. You can enlarge a high DPI image a little, and as long as you maintain the aspect ratio it should be fine, but if the image is already small, it's probably only screen resolution (72dpi).
Reply:Send me one and I will see if it is possible.

The answer is unfortunately probably no.
Reply:There are programs that will upsize small digital photos. I use PhotoZoom Pro, but these programs are costly, and I really do not think you would want to spend the money for this one time use. Plus, as small as your photos are, even the up resing programs would probably not be able to make them look much better.

You are basically trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

I am afraid you will just have to accept the small photos for what they are.

Has your "idiot buddy" totally trashed all the original large photos? He may still have them in his computer or on the camera memory card.

Reply:photoshop can enhance them ,,but it sounds like u used a camera phone or a real old dig camera........need more megapixals in the camera
Reply:that's going to be tough. Your buddy probably send the pictures in a size convenient for emailing, like 500 kb, but that size will not produce even a good print. If they look crappy even on the monitor, then maybe these pictures are only like 20 kb in size.
Reply:try sending them as an attachment...you can put them in a zip folder...or just attach them as a file...
Reply:Sorry, you can't make them bigger without getting the loss of quality you describe.

That's why images should be made at the highest resolution the camera will make, and those images should be archived.
