How old should a kid be allowed to have and email address?

The other day a friend asked me,"How old should a child be allowed to have an email?" I didn't know how to repley. Please say how old you think a kid should be.

How old should a kid be allowed to have and email address?
I'd say at least 13 where they're starting to learn the dangers of the Internet and who to give information to and who not to give information to.
Reply:I would say 10 or 11 maybe... Kind of depends on when they learn about computers and have computer application classes in school. I know when I was in school I was like 12 or 13 I think when we started using internet, etc.

But i think with technology growing kids will need to email each other, or teachers and such.. so it could be around 10 or 11 know a days
Reply:It depends on the kid. If they are very mature, it can be a younger one who is responsible. However, all kids should have parental permission and guidance, over computer use.
Reply:maybe 11?

i really dont know but my brother has a e-mail address and he's 11.

well.... my cousin has a e-mail address and he's 9 so i don't really know.

=)
Reply:At the very least 13 kids are getting in some REALLY BAD situations online wich is a sign there not old enough.
